Iphone 4S Announcement

So yesterday Apple made their iphone announcement. I would like to hear your input/thoughts on what they announced? I'm not sure why people are so disappointed. That was exactly what I was expecting. The key addition for me was the global support, which is there as expected. I never thought this phone would have 4G support. To me, the better camera, OS, processor, and Siri are all just icing on the cake. I'm looking forward to getting my iphne4S.

Would love to hear your thoughts and/or comments on the announcement, whether it is positive or negative?

Apple OS vs. Android

I'm interested to hear people's take on comparing Apple's OS vs Google's Android OS. I've been fortunate enough to experience both. My introduction was to the HTC Eris on VZW's 3G network. This was one of VZW's first Android smartphones. I have to say, I was very impressed with the Android OS. It was very easy to use and to maneuver around. The application store (Android Marketplace) at the time, was alittle light on apps, but month by month, the number of selections were increasing exponentially. Of course now, the Android market is chock full of applications. My only real complaint was the lack of the "pinch" capability to shrink and enlarge the screen size. I believe this issue has been resolved in later release of the OS.

On the other hand, Apple is the best in the world when it comes to User Interfaces. All my kids have iPod Touches and I've been using the iPad2. The OS and application store are both excellent. They make the user experience much more valuable. This is no knock on Android.

Honestly, both OS's are very good. the big difference is that in order to use the Apple OS, you're tied into the Apple device. On the otherhand, Android allows you to select a device from one of many many vendors (Samsung, LG, Motorola, HTC, ....). That's why you'll see more Android devices in the marketplance, simply based on the many platforms that it can run on. I guess it really comes down to whether or not your on the Apple band wagon or not. Those that have Macbooks at home will most likely levitate to the iPhones.

As I said, I'm pretty torn. I'm right now anxiously waiting for the iPhone5 to come out on the VZW network to upgrade my Blackberry to the new Apple platform. Even though I don't have any Apple computers in my house, I guess I'm leaning towards the Apple OS. If it makes you feel any better, my wife has an Android based smartphone which she loves, so you can see, my household is very flexible on this topic.

I'd love to hear what you think on this debate. Have you experienced certain applicatons that work better on one OS than the other? Let us know!!!

Thanks

Ipad2 is a Great Device. What are some Apps You are Using?

I recently acquired an Apple iPad2 with built in EVDO RevA wireless technology on the Verizon Wireless network. First off, as we all already know, Apple does an unbelievable job when it comes to user interfaces. This devices is truly incredible. After using it, I hate going back to my Lenovo Windows laptop. Anyway, there isn't much I'm not able to do on the tablet.

I'd like to hear other's thoughts on this device and let me know which cool apps you've found and are using on yours. I'm  a baseball fantatic, a true and thru Philadelphia Phillies fan, and I've recently purchased the MLB At-Bat 11 application. This application is great as I get play by play graphics, immediate highlights, pitch-by-pitch status, and even the live radio broadcasts of the games. As applications go, it's a little pricey as it cost me $9.99. I typically don't pay for applications but this one was worth it.

Let me know your experience with the iPad2 and let me know which applications you found to be very useful.

What's Your Thoughts on the Upcoming iPhone5?

I work in the wireless industry and the introduction of the Smartphone has caused the use of wireless data traffic to go thru the roof. It al started with the introduction of the iPhone 3G (on AT&T's network) and the introduction of several Android Smartphones (on Verizon Wireless' -VZW network). I've got plenty to say about all this, but for this particular thread, I want to hear wht your thoughts are on the upcoming iPhone5, rumors, what it will entail, when it will come out, ...
I've met with Apple several times on the business front and they are like a vault. I mean, they tell you nothing of their plans. So even if I wanted to break all kinds of NDA's and professional ethics rules, (which I never would), I have no info to share even if I wanted to.

Here's my thoughts:

I believe the iPhone5 will be introduced by Apple this fall (either September or October). Apple is very secretive about their plans. The big question everyone has is whether or not the iPhone5 will contain the 4G technology that Verizon has commercially deployed. My thoughts on this is absolutely not. My guess is we won't see an LTE-based iPhones until sometime in the early part of 2012. I believe the one they will launch in the fall will still be 3G (EVDO RevA for VZW and HSDPA for AT&T). Being a VZW subscriber myself, I'll focus more on them at this point. I think the VZW iPhone5 will be a global phone, meaning it will contain both CDMA and GSM/GPRS, meaning it will be usable in many countries throughout the world. This is one major lacking point on the current iPhone4. It has no global capability for the most part, so if you do alot of international travel, this phone is not the right one for you.

Aside from that, I'm sure there will be several other improvements, probably better quality cameras (both front and back) and a wider screen (edge to edge).

I'm waiting patiently for the iPhone5 as my current Blackberry Storm, a good email device I've been using for years, is on its last legs. I just need it to hold on for a few more months and I will convert to the iPhone5.

So those are my thoughts. I'm interested to hear what you have to say. Please post a response to this blog with your comments.

Thanks
